Poe, Richmond, and my birthday!

I am sitting in a hotel in Richmond Virginia because my super sweet husband drove all the way here from South Carolina so that I could pick up my Edgar Allan Poe bust from the Poe Museum. And it is my birthday today - I was born in Richmond many years ago.

The story...

We are members of the Poe Museum, so we receive a newsletter of the latest Poe news. Last month, there was an article that in celebration of Poe's coming bicentennial of his birth (January 19, 2009) they were making a limited number of reproductions of a marble bust that was made and presented to the Poe Museum for the centennial of his birth 100 years ago. So for the next couple weeks, I watched the web site to see when it would be ready for orders. As soon as it was on the site, I made the purchase. It was $200 and worth every penny. It would be plaster and the same size as the original - which is actually larger than life size.

Then, the Poe Museum tried to find an economical way to ship it to me, but the cheapest they could come up with was $380! So, my husband and I decided to road trip to pick it up. So here we are...

This is the original at the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. This bust is located in the Enchanted Garden behind the museum.

And here is my new Poe bust, sitting in the hotel room because there is no way I am leaving this treasure in the car all night alone... This beauty is two feet wide and more than two feet tall. It is huge and heavy.

Oh yeah, and I also got a cool new laptop for Christmas - which is how I am posting while on the road.

Shopping...shopping...shopping...

I believe I am finally done. I haven't had much time to work on any art with the holidays and birthdays (mine the 27th and my husband's on the 31st). But I am off work till the 2nd of January, so now I have the time to relax and enjoy the break.

We will probably go to see National Treasure and Sweeney Todd this week. And we might even squeeze in a little surprise trip to pick up my own special treasure. More information later....

Schnauzers everywhere....

I have always loved schnauzers and now that I have two solid black miniature schnauzers (Edgar Allan Poe and Capt. Jack Sparrow - I seem to notice more and more instances of this great dog in advertisements. I picked up a Vera Bradley catalog - I don't wear this brand but my nieces do - and look at this...

And on my favorite website - JuicyCouture.com - look at these beautiful black schnauzers. They look so much like my Jack.

I think Edgar needs this collar, but my husband thinks it is for girl dogs...

Aren't they cute?? Juicy Couture has all kinds of dog stuff, including nail polish and dog pawfum!
I just love it.

Another Poe purchase

I found this wonderful Poe pendant on Ebay. It was made from a dominoe and is one of my favorite drawings of Poe. I can't wait to wear this! And then - to my surprise, I noticed that the dominoe number was 63 - a great year!!!! I was meant to have this!
