The story...
We are members of the Poe Museum, so we receive a newsletter of the latest Poe news. Last month, there was an article that in celebration of Poe's coming bicentennial of his birth (January 19, 2009) they were making a limited number of reproductions of a marble bust that was made and presented to the Poe Museum for the centennial of his birth 100 years ago. So for the next couple weeks, I watched the web site to see when it would be ready for orders. As soon as it was on the site, I made the purchase. It was $200 and worth every penny. It would be plaster and the same size as the original - which is actually larger than life size.
Then, the Poe Museum tried to find an economical way to ship it to me, but the cheapest they could come up with was $380! So, my husband and I decided to road trip to pick it up. So here we are...
This is the original at the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. This bust is located in the Enchanted Garden behind the museum.
And here is my new Poe bust, sitting in the hotel room because there is no way I am leaving this treasure in the car all night alone... This beauty is two feet wide and more than two feet tall. It is huge and heavy.
Oh yeah, and I also got a cool new laptop for Christmas - which is how I am posting while on the road.
