New books and art

I have been on a book buying spree in the last few months. Sometimes, it is just the cover or title that interests me, but it is usually the subject matter.

Being a Francophile, I love anything French. This book My French Life, is about a a lady - Vicki Archer, that moves into a 17th century property in France - the her experiences with the country, people and all things French. It is full of wonderful pictures, but I especially like the cover art.

Another book from my recent purchases is Parisiennes: A Celebration of French Women. This book has lots of great photographs including some by Robert Doisneau, of French women. Each category of pictures includes an essay or quote about the subject. Love, motherhood, elegance, etc. These are just really great pictures...

Another book is Elegance: The Seeberger Brothers and the Birth of Fashion Photography. The photographs span from 1909 till 1939.

This is my favorite picture, I love this style of dress - 1912.

I also bought a couple books on Marie Antoinette. This first is actually a book of Marie Antoinette paper dolls. Thought I might be able to use these for something...

The second is a little book dedicated to the Marie-Antoinette Style.

And last but not least is a photo from Etsy that I just had to have. It is titled Marie Antoinette.

The photographer is Emmy C. Ludwig and you can see all her fine art photography at emmalynne.etsy.com. She can print these in other sizes too, so I purchased mine in 8 X 10.

Johnny can sing!

We went to see Sweeney Todd today. I can't believe that it took this much time since it premiered for me to see a new Johnny Depp movie! But with the holidays and birthdays and new year, we just got behind. But it was worth the wait. I did fail to mention to my husband that it was a musical, but he said he would have gone with me even if he had known before.

This afternoon, I read a little of a new book I picked up from the library - "Not Quite Dead" - which is a fiction about Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens.

And tonight, I am beginning the first of ten weeks of Jane Austen on PBS. Tonight is Persuasion. It is the complete Jane Austen - her six novels and something on Jane herself. YEAH!

Sunday stuff...

Cool new picture of Edgar Allan Poe that I bought on Etsy. The seller (Kenneth Rougeau) is Synchronicity 313. I love Etsy because it lets you see and buy art from artists all over the US.

Do you know who Paul Potts is? Watch this (above) from YouTube and see all the reactions!!!! I don't remember how I learned about this, but he was on Britain's Got Talent (like American Idol). Although I don't watch American Idol, when I saw this on You Tube, I almost cried. I read about him on Wikipedia, and found out that Simon Cowell signed him for a record deal after this. I just checked out Paul's new CD at the library and I am listening to it now. The guy was a mobile phone salesman!

And reading the new issue of Victoria magazine...

And watching a new DVD I received for Christmas...

This concert (Aloha from Hawaii) was January 14, 1973 - almost 35 years ago!

Additional information: My husband just told me that he worked security for Elvis at his concernt in Columbia, SC on February 18, 1977 at the Carolina Coliseum! I can't believe he didn't like mention that on our first date! That is exciting stuff. My husband was a Columbia policeman and he worked the concert - right at the stage! OMG!

McDonald's Iced Coffee

I LOVE IT! We first experienced this at a McDonald's at the Grand Canyon and came back to South Carolina expecting it to already be here - but it wasn't. Everytime we went to McD's, we asked. Some thought we were crazy and a few knew that it was coming soon, but no one had it yet.

And then, it came - to the McDonald's on Highway One in Lexington! YEAH! I don't drink coffee, but I love this - especially with vanilla flavoring.

My husband is trying to figure out the formula for making it at home. We have gone through an entire bottle of vanilla syrup (found in the coffee section of the grocer) and he is almost there. It is the milk or creamer or half/half part that we are still working out.

Poe is home

My new Poe bust is home, but looking for a good place to rest. He is so large that he takes up almost my whole dining table. I am going to have to buy a special piece of furniture to place him on. A regular pedastal would not be wide and deep enough.

Anyway, he will be ok until we move into our house.

I just bought these cool plates and cups from Pottery Barn - on sale after Christmas.

I am thinking that I can use these for Valentine's Day and Christmas. YEAH!
