Last day of 2008

It is my husband's birthday - yeah! But I have been sick these last few days - bummer! I hate getting sick on vacation. On Monday, we went to Asheville and as always, it was wonderful. It has been in the 70's all month here in South Carolina, so it was nice to have a little cold weather.

Tonight, while my husband watches the millionth bowl game and I wonder how I going to survive not having Spongebob next year if Viacom and Time Warner Cable don't come together, I am thinking of my new year's resolutions. Of course, there is always the normal ones - lose weight, exercise more, save money. But also on my list is:

1. Read the entire bible in one year. I have already read the bible since I majored in history and religion, but I want to do it outside of classes. So I have a new NSRV bible that I got a the Augsburg Fortress bookstore at the Lutheran college here in Columbia. I also bought an Archaeological Study Bible which I will follow along with too. And I will use my textbook from my old and new testament classes.

2. Continue to learn French. I took 2 years of college French and I want to be semi-fluent in the language, enough so that when we finally make it to Paris, I can talk with the locals!

3. Read one new book per week. I have a bunch already that I need to read, but I want to watch less TV and read more. Hey, maybe with Nick gone, I won't watch Spongebob reruns.

4. Art every day!

5. I need to get off Coca Cola. I drink way too much Coke and not enough water.

So that is my list - starting tomorrow......

More books to read

Adding to my list of books to read, including the entire set of Sookie Stackhouse novels that I got for Christmas, are these Gothic books:

Paint it Black: A guide to Gothic Homemaking
The Twilight Companion: The unauthorized guide to the series
Walking the Twilight Path: A gothic book of the dead
Goth Chic
The Gothic Bible

I am so excited about Edgar Allan Poe's 200th Celebration - January 19, 2009. The museum in Richmond is going to be open for 24 hours on his birthday. And every city with a connection to Poe is doing something: Richmond, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston. In Baltimore, they are going to have a funeral for Poe in October to mark 160 years since his death. Just might have to road trip for that one.

Another Christmas has passed

I had a great Christmas. I got lots of great things, including all the books that True Blood is based on. My parents were here from Alabama and I got the great news that my father has set his retirement date - YEAH! Tomorrow I turn 45 and then in 4 days, my husband has his birthday. This holiday break, we are staying around home, but we may be able to squeeze in a day trip somewhere. Last Saturday, we took his daughter with us for a day in Charleston. It is so nice here that people are still able to wear short sleeves.

I am trying out my new flat screen monitor (another present). I love how much space it frees up on my desk. Plus the picture is great. I think my husband liked it so much after he installed it on my computer that he wants one now.

Sunday

Finally get the house completely decorated for Christmas. And my boys got their hair done today and also had their picture taken with Santa. They asked for all kinds of chew toys and a new comfortable pillow, since they tore open the last one. Don't they look cute?
