Doomed Queens

I LOVE this book!!!!! It is so cool. I first saw Doomed Queens - Royal Women who met Bad Ends, From Cleopatra to Princess Di by Kris Waldherr in a magazine. Both the name and the cover made this book a must buy! I didn't even have to see it first. Then when it came in this week, I was so happy I bought it. It is filled with all kinds of art work and just neat stuff. Check out the website too - it's as interesting as the book!!!

And of course, it has my step-daughter's namesake - Catherine Howard!

It is divided into chapters by time - biblical, dark ages, middle ages, renaissance, baroque, and modern. It even has a chapter called - Are you a doomed queen? I probably am!!!

And the key lets you know how the Queen meets her doom......

New Poe Items

As most of you know, I am a Poe groupie. I am always on the lookout for anything Edgar Allan Poe. So of course, I was at the Post Office on Friday to get my sheets of stamps on the first day of issue.
I also found this little print of Poe by Paulina Cassidy. I found her art on Ebay while doing my searches for new and interesting Poe items. So after looking around at her other items, I also bought a book called "Scary little Faeries". She hand colors the covers of each one. Great book.
And check out her Tarot card prints - they are awesome - I want them all!!!!

Two days till Poe's birthday!

Edgar Allan Poe

It is getting closer to the 200th anniversary of his death. On Friday, the United States Post Office will be issuing a commemorative stamp and I can't wait to get these. I really like the art work on this. I hope they come up with some other things with this image - like a poster or something.

Also, I received the frame I ordered from Dick Blick for my AWESOME Pamela Hill painting. This painting is my most precious piece of art. I love it and it could go no where except over the fireplace, so I can constantly admire it. I am still working on the mantle arrangement, but this is it for now.
I found this artist on Etsy and I always like to support great artists. Her Etsy site is dzaet and her web site it dzaet.

Studio

I am working so hard in my studio - not on an art project, but organizing and setting it up the way I want. Pictures will be coming soon. But here is what I have on the wall! Just something to inspire me when I need it.

Weekly reads

One of my resolutions was to read at least a new book a week. So this week, I am reading two - one in my car during lunch break and another at home.

A Dog Named Christmas - I am not sure where I first heard about this, but it is a great little book. It is about a animal shelter that has a Christmas campaign that lets families bring home pets for the holidays, so that they won't have to stay at the shelter over the holidays. A very special family gets this one. It is a true feel-good book to read and not just at Christmas.

Another book is Carolina Crimes: Case Files of a Forensic Photographer. This book is written by a retired forensic photographer with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). I love reading about true crime and it is especially good because the crimes are right here in South Carolina. Although I got this from the local library, it can be purchased at a Charleston publisher - The History Press.

Houston - We have Spongebob!

It looks like Viacom and Time Warner have reached an agreement and we still have Spongebob - YEAH!

The schnauzers love their new bed!

I love my new MP3 and iDog. He barks, dances to music, and taps his little foot. And I have to pay attention to him or he gets upset.

Some super cool weeping willows made by wire artists that I picked up in Asheville at the Kress Emporium. These are by artist Gerald Sanders. They are really nice, especially in black.

This is an old Kress drug store that they have turned into an artist gallery. It has booths from all kinds of artists (jewelry, pottery, paintings, etc.)

And I also picked up this photo art at the Woolworth Walk in Asheville, another drug store that they have turned into an artists gallery. It is by artist Mike Couzins. I love how this one looks like a secret place in the forest. The scan below is with the wrap still on the photo, so it is not as clear as the photo is. I just like the way he takes a regular photo and turns it into something special by duplicating the image. They are called surreal scapes.

I think it is important to support artists in places like these and also on Etsy.
