Art and Soul Retreat

I have arrived in Virginia and all is well. I love my room. I haven't stayed in an Embassy Suites - I usually stay at Holiday Inn Express. Having that seperate room is great. The room has a frig and microwave, so I can have some snacks here.

I registered for the conference and took a quick look around the store they have set up. They have some neat stuff. If I have any money after the Sturday night vendor event, then I might pick up some more stuff.

Tomorrow is my first class - soldering for virgins - yeah. I have to get my supplies all ready!

Life After People

Life After People is awesome. I DVR'd it last night in HD on History Channel and just watched it. It is a series of shows about the earth after man dies off. It shows what will happen to buildings and everything that is left behind. I already love looking at web sites of abandoned buildings and all, so this is right up my alley.

Bela Lugosi's Dead

I was waiting in line at Barnes and Noble, and in those displays by the check out, they had this CD right about the Twilight CD. It caught my eye with the angel and the title :After Dark: The Alternative Gothic Rock Collection.

I love "Love and Lust" from Telepathique and"Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus.

Bela Lugosi's Dead
White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi's dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi's dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Logosi's dead
Undead undead undead

Here is Bauhaus singing Bela...

And ere is Nouvelle Vague singing "Bela Lugosi's Dead" with cool video.

Frozen Charlotte

Today, I am going to work on a new banner for my blog - something a little more exciting than this one.

I also have less than two weeks to get ready for the art retreat. I need to find all kinds of little "treasures" that I can use. I am so excited about going.

This week, I picked up some good deals on little dolls - some even Frozen Charlotte. I love getting these to use in art.

And from my favorite store - French General - her stuff is awesome. She finds the coolest treasure in these old millinery stores and then sells it to us!

Cool Chanel...

I love Chanel and the Chanel look - lots of black and white. I only have two pieces of Chanel that I bought a couple years ago in Las Vegas. I would probably have more if they had a local store or I could order online.

I was looking through some mags at B&N and found the new FRENCH issue of Vogue. It has a bunch of articles and pictures of Chanel and of course, it is all in French.

And look at these great looks...

Etsy find

I love Etsy and I get a lot of great things there. It is fun to just enter something you like and see what all comes up. Sometimes I will search for a color - Red, or a shape - heart, or a style - gothic. I find very unqiue things this way.

One day, I was looking through the search results for heart and this little treasure came up. A cross on a heart on a little sterling charm. Then I looked at the details and guess what - it not only says "I am a Lutheran", but is engraved with the name "Lenore".

From my books surcease of sorrow — sorrow for the lost Lenore —
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore —
Nameless here for evermore.

Back home from Alabama

Just returned from Muscle Shoals after my sister's wedding. It was very nice and we had a good time. I saw lots of relatives I haven't seen since I moved from Mississippi.

I took somce great pictures of my parent's house. My mother has always been a great decorator and just does wonders with putting together displays.

Here are some examples:
